Next step after arrival

Last week I arrived at the USA, having IR-1 visa.

 

As far as I understood, I need to go to the nearest SSN office and apply for my SSN, what shall I do next?

It can take up to two weeks after arrival for USCIS to update database that SSA uses to verify status, give it at least that long before visiting SSA to order SSN.

 

If you have not yet done it you should pay immigrant fee to get card in mail.

If the Ch citizen is changing his/her last name, start at the social security office.
