Hainan Airlines eyes western US

On Tuesday, Hainan Airlines opened a direct route from Southwest China's Chongqing to Los Angeles, the first direct route between the two cities, following its March 15 launch of a direct route to the US city from Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province.
So far, the airline has 12 routes to the US, making it China's carrier with the most routes between the two countries.
Once the dark horse of China's airline industry, Hainan Airlines took fewer than nine years to become a dominant force in the industry.

So we are looking at my wife taking Hainan from Las Vegas to Chongqing and back end of next month. She will stay for her mother's birthday and return after 20 days there. Flights start at just under $500 round trip depending on departure and return dates. If she leaves when she wants it will still be under $600. Depends on when her employer will let her take time off.

Just wanted to pass this along. Saw their commercials as they heavily marketed here in USA. Decided to try Hainan Airlines for stepdaughter's visit to USA over October 1 holiday. The price was very good and had daily direct Beijing to Las Vegas flight. Booked flight 4 months ago.

Just got notice her daily flight was canceled and given the option of traveling 2 days earlier (not possible) or 2 days later (had to take). Ended up messing up a lot of internal USA plans that had already been booked.

Looks like they are canceling a number of flights because they didn't get the volume. Still it's direct flight and Southwest was wonderful about changing connecting flight from Las Vegas but be a little cautious if you are planning a trip with strict deadlines. Never had a flight cancel before in 12 years of using American, United, Delta.

Stepdaughter took trip the trip from China to US on Hainan Airlines. Other then the earlier flight cancelation all was good. They even paid the additional incremental cost caused by having to reschedule the connecting flights due to their cancellation. Flight and price were very good. We would use them again!

I booked flights on Hainan last month to go to China for Chinese New Year and to visit my wife's family. We have a direct flight from Las Vegas to Beijing and then connect to Chongqing which is our final destination. Direct flights to Chongqing are not available right now, although they were for a time. Still tickets round trip were $570 each. I also booked a apartment through Air BnB, which is the first time I have used them.
