Flying after a surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am from Toronto and let me make the post short! The first thing which always makes me bothered in a date is my nose! It's abnormally large and I really really hate it. I was always scared to undergo a surgery! But that was the worst day in my life! I don't usually go for dating because of my ugly nose which makes me feel uncomfortable. Last week, I had a date after a long time and he just told me directly that "my nose is terrific!". I shouted him like anything and left the place! I know it sounds rude, but I was not able to control myself at that time. We were gonna make a liplock and that was the time he told it! I couldn't sleep and eat! I consulted a surgeon near our area and underwent rhinoplasty surgery 3 days ago! My fear towards the surgery has just vanished because of the anger towards him!!! I am leaving to China next week and I don't wanna be here anymore. But I don't know whether flying suddenly after a rhinoplasty is allowed or not. I have to contact my surgeon and ask it. Have any of you undergone a rhinoplasty before? Can you please share your suggestions regarding this?

I was a surgical tech and assisted in many cosmetic and traumatic rhinoplasties. You probably have had splints inserted to hold up the cartilage and bone that may have been chipped or otherwise messed with. Wait for the splints to be removed and then have your doctor approve the flight. It can be 10 days after surgery before you are released depending on what you had done. Could be even earlier but best to make sure. Lot of pressure going in and out of those tubules.

Don't let them let you away without some sort of pain med. And bear in mind pressure changes on a congested nose can be pretty painful. While in flight, know where you can get some ice.

Luck.
