KevinNelson
My wife will be going back to China for a short time soon. She wants to take seven Zippo lighters there to give as gifts. Randy W
My wife will be going back to China for a short time soon. She wants to take seven Zippo lighters there to give as gifts. They are new, sealed, and in their original packaging. Any problems? Chinese love Zippos! If she's taking a boat, no problem. If she's flying, they're illegal in either carry-ons, or checked luggage. When I was in the U.S., I had bought myself a BBQ-style long lighter before I checked the regulations. I had to toss it. Zippos are fairly readily available here. They even had a Zippo store at the local RT-Mart here in Yulin.

KevinNelson
Thank you Randy. The lighters are all sealed by the manufacturer and are empty. Another related question: Are there any restrictions, by the Chinese government, on how many can be brought into China?
dnoblett
I would think the contain no fuel requirement would be met if the zippo lighters travel with top half stored separate from the bottom half the tank pulled out.
Randy W
The lighters may show up on X-rays (at the airport), which might trigger a hand-inspection. As far as customs, I don't think you have to declare something like that, but "Gifts" is a good word.
Doug
So common request & folks want them FROM the USA. Otherwise they believe their knockoffs. We were selling them, & gifts. Wife found a cheap place in a mall at a Mexican's isle vendor place. in Grapevine. Cheaper than gas stations or smoke shops.
rogerluli
Last year before Luli went back I bought 6 new Zippos per her request...Then she found out that Chinese Customs will not allow them through...I have no links or actual knowledge of same...only 6 lighters sitting in a drawer somewhere... RobertH
Have Exact experience on this one. Last trip back to China we took 3 New Empty Zippos as gifts. Leaving the USA was no problem as they were packed in checked luggage. We had a connecting flight in China and their screening agent called us to a room where they said they see the lighter on X-ray and we must remove them. We did as requested and then they told us if we wanted to Mail then to our final destination there was a place we could do it close by. We went and mailed them cost us maybe 7 dollars with insurance on the items and they showed up a few days after we arrived. Im sure most airports will have a similar place for sending items. RobertH
Oh yeah about the fake Zippos they are everywhere in China some good some bad. Hui's brother had a couple and they felt nice and solid until compaired to a Real one we had brought then you could see many details that were not as well done.
