Mr. Don
Hi all. Hope everyone is doing well. My wife and I are beginning our research on options for bringing her parents to the US. They are both over 65 and we are trying to learn what assistance, if any, they would be able to receive once they are here such as assisted living, health insurance options....etc. as they would like to have some independence of their own. Can someone who has experienced a similar situation share what you did or point us to existing posts on this topic. Any assistance or input would be greatly appreciated Thanks all! :-) Link to comment
dnoblett
Firstly your wife needs to naturalize and become a US Citizen. As for government assistance, we are looking at it now and the forms for Medicaid show making supporter (visa petitioner) responsible for costs, makes sense, the retired immigrant never paid taxes putting money into the system. Right now looking into insurance options, which are not very affordable. Link to comment
amberjack1234
Mr. Don, Dan has hit it right on the head once more as he usually does. I have to say something kind of out of the way but you did ask for information. If your you and your wife lives anywhere around a Chinese community get "her" to start digging around and see what she can dig up. There always seems to be a way around the systems. As a last resort if there are any of our friends that use to live south of us that live in your community get to know them. They are experts at circumventing the straight and narrow if you know what I mean. I know that this will offend some because many of us, including me, are tired of being exploited by some other folks that are here but if they can do it why not a few ole Chinese relatives, ma and baba. Now if you are loaded with greenbacks just leave it at it is and follow the letter of the law. Link to comment
