leaving china for flight to canada with Chinese passport and US greenc

Recommended Posts

Not seen anyone post connecting through Canada, however I do suspect exit control seeing a connecting flight out of Canada should know this is fine, it is no different than connecting through other countries like Japan, and Korea.

No connection, Flying into Toronto and we are driving the 3 hours from there to get home.

Could have one issue with the Canadian POE.

Must have Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Wow, this is completely news to me. My wife (US Green card) has traveled to Canada several times with me by land. We never thought about eTA when we planned to fly to Canada this year for vacation. Thank you.

Yep, mainly if planning on arriving in Canada and then leaving the airport is where it is an issue, not if just connecting in Toronto or Vancouver, making a connection to or from China is not an issue.

Hello, I just read this article the other day about new rules being enforced for travelers transiting thru Canada:

http://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/new-travel-restrictions-to-canada-take-effect-sept-30/ar-BBwpg2v

"Visa-exempt foreign nationals, including Europeans, who fly or transit through Canada will soon need to obtain an electronic travel authorization (eTA), the immigration ministry reminded Tuesday.

A leniency period has been in effect since mid-March, when the new regulations were rolled out, due to technical glitches. But that ends on September 30, when officials will begin to strictly enforce the rules.

US citizens are exempted.

Other foreign nationals, including those passing through on a stopover, must fill out an online eTA in advance of their trip, and pay an administrative fee of Can$7 (US$5.29)."

So, are the rules the same or have they changed? It has been years since I transited thru Canada on my way to China. I remembered back then we were kept in a secured area as we waiting for our next flight. I wonder if they are trying cover their cost for us passing thru Canada or are they trying to track all travelers? Danb
