Traveling back to Beijing from Guangzhou without passport for foreign

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Need some help..

I started the following topic to know about the average time for the visa process and understood from Randy that it would takes about 2 weeks or so..

http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/48372-how-long-does-it-take-to-get-passport-and-visa-after-the-interview/?p=626561

I haven't yet been able to find any information on how to get some kind of document which allows me(foreign national) to travel back to Beijing from Guanzhou while I wait for my passport and visa packet

Has anyone done this before ? ("This" as in coming back to Beijng while your visa is being processed in Guangzhou)?

Or is it that most people would wait in Guangzhou for two weeks until they pick up their visa and passport in Guangzhou CITIC bank pick up centers?

For Chinese nationals, of course this is none of their concern since they can travel with within China.

I need this information so that I can choose my pick up center Beijing (if I could travel back to Beijing without my passport) or Guangzhou (if I do not have any choice).

Any information regarding this is helpful, thank you all in advance!

It's been done, but it's VERY rare, since most visa applicants are Chinese, and can travel with their ID.

Your PSB can fix you up with a travel document.

I'd say check with the PSB in Beijing or the YongHeGong Visa Center place. One time I had to go on an unexpected trip to Chongqing while I was in the middle of the 15 working days wait for my new residence permit. I went to the Yonghegong/Lama Temple Visa Center and they gave me this travel document Randy is talking about. I forget the process and what it entailed, but it was very simple and pain-free.

If that doesn't work, perhaps after you're in Guangzhou, you could go to the PSB there. I'm guessing you haven't been the first one with this issue, and they'll know what you need and be able to get you the travel document quickly and easily.

Ok, so I went to Entry-Exit Bureau at Lama temple today to ask about the possibility of having some kind of travel document which allows me to travel while my passport is at the embassy and the answer was loud and clear - NO!

In a way, it make sense..,

This is what they had to say:

- If it was them holding passport for the visa issuance, then yes, they give this yellow document (which you guys are probably talking about) which can be used as travel document within China.

- I should ask the embassy who keeps the passport to issue me a document, but they are not sure if it will enough for me to allow me to travel.

So, for now, - this is all I got.

Not sure if I will be going to local PSB to ask the same question. Don't think they have answer I want to hear.

I will probably wait to call Guangzhou directly when my case gets there...

Yes, I meant using this form to ask question to Guangzhou directly once my case arrives Guangzhou.

I have tried earlier to ask them some question using this online form. Since my case has not yet been forwarded to Guangzhou, they simply replied- they do not have my case number - without answering anything about the questions I asked. They asked to contact them once the case has been forwarded to them.

That would be VERY nasty if they left you without a way to even leave Guangzhou for such a long period - the Consulate keeping your passport for any longer than 24 hours is absolutely criminal in my book.

Even DRIVING on the highway from Guangzhou we were stopped and asked for my passport.

But I don't see what the consulate could do for you, other than to return your passport within 24 hours - which they don't seem to be capable of doing these days.

What ever happened to the days where you could request visa package delivery at the nearby post office? Typically 48 hours after interview, or they return passport without visa if additional processing is found to be needed. The other option was to have the package mailed to address within Guangdong province, and if needed have it then forwarded by a third party.

Although, my case is not there yet in Guangzhou (which I hope it would soon be) I am actually worried having to stay in Guanzhou for more than 2 weeks waiting for my passport.

Haven't found out any information elsewhere either...yet..

I probably am not the first foreigner who is in this situation, but looks like I will have to accept the fact for now.

Well you should be! Seems like even something as basic as changing hotels might be problematic during that time.

Others have been in the same situation, of course, but I don't remember it being as dire as what you're reporting.Seems like the PSB need to come through for you - maybe try in Guangzhou BEFORE you turn in your passport.
