evidence must be translated into English?

Recommended Posts

do I need to translate all the evidence of having met in the past 2 years with information in Chinese into English?

In general, no, although there might be a specific reason to do so. I think some have even submitted relationship affidavits with no English language translation.

Having met in past 2 years evidence tends to be a K-1 fiance visa petition requirement.

Copy of a residence permit showing dates can be used this way.

When we filed our I-130 they did not accept copies of our leases without translations.

This is for a DCF proof of residence, correct?

We were submitting them as relationship proof, though perhaps that's what the consular official thought now that you mention it.

Yes - USCIS will issue an RFE if they require additional evidence - the guy at the window simply wants to know where you live

Even so, a rudimentary English translation of at least what the document states (e.g., names, address, and length of lease) may be a good idea.

Kathy Liu, I think it is very important to submit your evidence in English where ever possible. I did everything in English when I filed both of our cases. I figured the form, !-130, form I-129, form G-325, you have white books that are translated into English, etc etc are all done in English, so why any other evidence I have not be done in English. Plus, I am submitting evidence that will be read in an American consulate in China, for immigration to America. What the heck, maybe the fact that everything else is sent in in English makes a very compelling, and, very specific reason why it should ALL be in English.

I never wanted to get a RFE for any of my evidence. We even had the Chinese friends who wrote testimonials for us to write their testimonials in ChInese, then my wife and I translated them into English and let our friends copy the English translations in their own hand so we could submit them...without the expense of a translated and notarized white book.

If your boyfriend or husband hasn't submitted the initial petition for you yet, he should be able to do any evidence of your meeting in English. He should be writing up an "evolution of relationship letter" that outlines all of this anyhow, and that will be done in English.

I say do it right the first time and don't leave anything to chance that may get you a time killing RFE on your paperwork.

Good luck to you,

I posted this in another thread. Note that it's probably overkill but if you're looking for a decent full translation, well here it is :P

This is what they use in Shenyang, I'm assuming it's the same or similar in other cities but that's up to you to figure out! I added the underscores so you can see the spots that are usually filled out. On the documents I'm submitting only the signature underscore is left, everything else is entered in Word.

There it is, perfect!!! For the lease. It's already in English, just fill in the blanks.

We got the typical "white books" that are needed for birth, police, and marriage translated and notarized but the only other things that we used as evidence, that wasn't already in English, we translated ourselves. The attestments from Chinese friends as to our marriage and long relationship, we translated and had our friends copy in their hand ...in English. For us I wrote most everything that we needed in English.

If you have any particular evidence that you need translated, please run it by us. I honestly can't think of anything other than attestments to your relationship from Chinese friends that you would need to be translated. Then again, I'm not a very big thinker. LOL

Good luck,
