johnny206
Hi All, In my I-797 (notice of approval for I-129F), There's an A# number above my then fiancee's name. Is this the Alien number? I want to know because certain forms for Adjustment of Status asks for it. See link below for screenshot of form I-797. Thanks!! https://www.dropbox.com/s/1h3nifqtlsyw8bq/a%20number.jpg?dl=0 Link to comment
KevinNelson
Does a person with a SSN also need an alien ID number? Or does one get the alien ID number before getting their SSN? Link to comment

SSA will issue a SSN based on the work authorization and green-card status. However they will not issue it until USCIS updates their SAVE database system which usually takes a couple weeks after arrival in the states. Link to comment

They are two separate entities - the alien number is for immigration purposes, the SSN is for employment and financial purposes. An alien will no longer need the alien number once they have been granted citizenship, although there may be occasions where it will still be asked for. Both are issued for life. Link to comment

I see noting like an A# on it, or that is identified as such. Link to comment

Alien Registration Number , A# is the Registration number on the visa. Note the red number is the visa number, not A# http://www.uscis.gov/uscis-elis/immigrant-fee-payment-tips-finding-your-number-and-dos-case-id Link to comment
