UStraveldocs K1/K2 Entry

China is waking up now, and the people at ustraveldocs are waking up too. So, I just called and spoke to a nice young Chinese man about the proper way to enter K1 and K2 information.

1. The short skinny is that the user need only create ONE account.

2. Select the visa type. In this case, K-visa

3. Choose the option for K1 visa (avoid the K2 option)

4. Enter the K1 applicant's information and click Continue

5. Choose Add to add a dependent

6. Under Relationship, choose Child

7. Type the K2 information

We are still waiting for our P3 so, we simply saved the information at this point. The young man at UStraveldocs was not sure what or when to use the K2 option on the K-visa splash screen. However, he could see our information and verified everything had been entered correctly.

Yeah, that's what counts! Under the old paper system, it was very easy to go in and see the entire process, what needed to be done, what information you would need, and what would need to be filed when. Under this system, we would need to actually fake a visa application just to see what someone has to go through in the process. Instead, we are having to rely on what we hear, which is often tainted by which visa type they are applying for.

That K-visa splash screen is a killer. It might be interesting to go through the K-2 radio button to see what happens (no, I'm NOT suggesting that you do that, or asking you to). That might be necessary for a follow-to-join case.

Thanks for the feedback, Jesse!

You're so right about that Randy! It flips me out just how little information is out there about how to use this new process. That's very likely because everyone is baffled by it and spending hours pulling out their hair wondering how to do it and whether they got it right. In the end, those who have finished it are too exhausted and unable to go back and get screen shots and / or probably don't even remember what they clicked and why. It truly is despicable that the government has not created instructions about how to use the website, but actually created it with the intention of having the Chinese beneficiary create an account and complete all the content. That same thinking is bolstered by disallowing anything other than a Chinese bank card to be used to pay Visa fees online.
