I liked Huangyao; have no clue whether that is a "famous" tree or just a cool one. Regardless, it is cool

Looks like I even nailed the spot where the cameraman was standing (for "The Painted Veil" movie shot from 2006)

The shot here is from the movie

Okay so I still haven't posted the pictures from our room. I took around 1500 pictures, so maybe I'll get to them shortly.

Nice photos and it looks like an old city. Still waiting to see the room.

We're almost there, Mick. Hang loose just a little bit longer. I'm trying to download some MONEY right now - "living expenses" apparently isn't a specific enough reason any more for some reason.

This door to the outside was at the far end of our courtyard

There are wooden pins inside of the vertical bars which lock the cross bars in place, until you release them through a finger hole access

. . . and inside the room

Huangyao?? Where is it? Is this one of the old towns tourist destinations? I enjoyed the photos. The prices of the room sounds pretty good. Danb

Yes - the movie "The Painted Veil" with Edward Norton and Naomi Watts was filmed there in 2006.

There's a LOT to see around Hezhou, Yangshuo, and Huangyao - we intend to go back soon. I declined the trip shortly before going into the hospital - now we have to wait for the summer weather to cool off, and for a convenient break in my wife's building construction. A nice little trip after all the money we're throwing at the building.

I'm hoping we can stay at the Secret Garden Hotel in Jiuxian near Yangshuo - http://www.yangshuosecretgarden.com/
