Links Posted by Users

Recommended Posts

Mike (Nuworld) has reported a problem where links posted by users don't work - that is, they aren't clickable. Even clicking on the Link button doesn't seem to work,

I've added a media tag which helps the problem - if you simply post an ASCII link (something like h t t p://www.anysite.com/blah,blah,blah with no spaces in http), it will replace it with html code to get a working link.

This is apparently a new anti-spam "feature" from IPB to prevent user's from spamming with links to external sites - we have a request in to see if this feature can be restored.

In the meantime, just post your link and I'll fix any of them that I see need fixing.

But if you post it in this format

http://www.anysite.com/blahblahblah

it should be converted to a working link

link to: www.anysite.com/blahblahblah

To illustrate the problem - this post has what should be a clickable link in it.

But that link doesn't show up in the original post, nor does clicking on it work, until an Admin comes along to fix it.

All I had to do was to quote the post, and the link shows up here in MY post.

When you want to post a link, just post the ASCII text URL including http://, and NOT the URL tags or the link button - until we can get it fixed..

It works just fine - the problem is that it has to be edited and saved by an Admin. That's EXACTLY what this topic is about

I'm not sure if that's an IPB bug or an anti-spam feature, but it's something that doesn't behave the way a member would expect it to (and renders the link both non-functional and invisible) - that's why it needs to be fixed.

Link tool behaves strange, it is adding the ( <-- ) next to it messing up the link, switching edit mode to no tools shows what should be a normal URL from the tags.

With the fix off, this is what a regular member will see - links are invisible, and not functioning.

Now the fix is back on, so that links posted by Members will at least work.

What ever fix is in place is messing up media links.

The posts I did using my wife's user level account worked just fine, now as admin, I am getting the silly Link:To and no media.

Where are the posts from your wife's account?
