Improvements to visa application procedures

Improvements to U.S. visa application procedures went into effect across China on March 16, 2013. The new online system makes it easier and less expensive to apply for a visa to the United States. These services will be provided to visa applicants by our authorized partner, CGI Stanley.

How to Apply for a Visa

To learn about the visa application process, pay the visa application fee online, and schedule an appointment, please visit the visa application website.

http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/non-immigrant-visa-section.html

Go here: http://www.ustraveldocs.com/cn/index.html Fill out Visa application there, and should get a CGI number there.

From CGI Stanly site:

Cash at CITIC Bank

You can pay your nonimmigrant visa (NIV) application fee in cash at any of branch of CITIC Bank. Before going to the bank, you must print and carry the applicable U.S. visa fee collection slip available after logging into your profile. You must bring your passport and the printed deposit slip with you to pay your fee.

DO NOT PRINT MULTIPLE COPIES OF THE DEPOSIT SLIP. Each member of a family or group should be considered as a separate transaction. You must print a unique deposit slip for each transaction. You must bring your passport and the printed deposit slip with you to pay your fee. Upon payment, you will receive a receipt.

The CGI number is on that uniqe depolsit slip explained above.

OR you can also pay the fee on line without needing to vist the bank, and then schedule the appointment on line.

Thanks, dnoblett. This is the first I've heard of CGI Stanley. Does that mean that we can't finish the application process using the electronic DS160 we already filled out on the embassy website?

The process changed as of the middle of last month.

The DS-160 you previously filled out did not get recorded anywhere, that old system only filled in the form, and generate a data sheet that contained the data enered into the form, a large barcode.

The new system as of March 16 handles everything electronically, simply go to CGI Stanly and fill out a new DS-160, pay the fee and schedule appointment all on that site. Fee can be paid on line, in cash at the bank, or even at the CITIC bank ATM machine, per the above linked site.

Study their site, sounds like you need to download and print out the barcoded DS-160, and perhaps save the PDF file if you need to print it again

Sounds like you have that right, you then need to create an account on the CGI Stanly site, and get a receipt to pay the fee.

Thanks, again. We ended up being able to use the DS160 we had already filled out.

Just got a CGI number using the website you provided, paid the fee at CITIC bank using this CGI number, and got the receipt number that we could then use to proceed to appointment registration on the website. Thanks!

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wanted to give an update. My mother-in-law passed her interview for the B2 visa. The interviewer asked for the "mei guo cai liao" -- "American materials" -- and my MIL just gave her the invitation letter I wrote. The only question asked was who was paying for the trip.

Thanks for the help! Should be a great visit over the summer for Grammy to finally meet her granddaughter.
