Received NOA, What Next?

Recommended Posts

Next will be "P3" issued by consulate in your case (DCF)

P3 consists of OF-169 a list of documents needed for interview such as Police cert, Marriage cert, Birth Cert etc...

In your case wait for P3 for both cases and then send the OF-169 back for both cases together, so that they schedule both visa interviews to happen at same time.

I seen the earlier post about the I-864. I'm still a little fuzzy on this. I am the sponsor and my father is the co-sponsor. Do we both fill out the I-864 form or does he fill out the I-864A form? Just trying to get things straight.

Also we sent off the paper work for my step-daughters name change. How soon should we hear from Guangzhou for a notice of acceptance letter? Getting a little nervous as we heard from Guangzhou within two weeks for the wife's notice of acceptance.

Also is there a working phone number in Guangzhou that I can call to check on the paper work? The number on the form letter doesn't appear to be a working number.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just received the P3 packet today. The I-134, on the first line that says residing at: Would that be my Chinese address or my US address? I was wondering what for carries more weight the I-134 or the I-864 form? They ask for similar information on both forms. I have to admit these 2 forms make me squeamish...lol

You will not use an I-134 it is only for non-immigrant visas like K-visas.

You WILL be using I-864 which is used for sponsoring an immigrant ang sponsoring a green-card.

If you have a US domicile address use that and attach proof that you maintained domicile and citizenship.

Yep, property tax bills should prove maintained domicile also copy of a deed would help. Copies of income tax returns are also needed, the consulate prefers seeing past three years of returns.

One other thing they need is evidence can support after arriving in the USA. Ongoing employment, a job waiting, sufficient assets, or perhaps residual income from a business or investments.

In many DCF cases where there is insufficient income or assets to support after moving the primary sponsor (you) will get the help of someone in the USA to act as a joint sponsor and they also provide an I-864.

You are a US citizen you are not applying for a visa to enter the USA so you are not filling out a DS-230 visa application.

Your wife and step child are applying for visas so they fill out DS-230 for each visa one for each.

Whewwwwwwwwwww good to know. I was stressing over the list the addresses you've lived at since the age of 16...lol

Do I need to capitalize all the words in form as I did on the I-130? I didn't see anything in the instructions for this. Also on the line 44, "Were you assisted in completing this application?" I would put my name there?

I also checked yes in the box to issue a Social Security number. Is this OK?

You can use all caps.

All address since age 16 applies to visa applicants.

Assist in filling out tends to apply to a visa service or lawyer, you can put your name there if you want but not required.

Yes check the SSN box. In most cases SSN card arrives around time of green card, if does not arrive in mail at a month after arrival, then visit SSA office and apply for them.

On the line 33 list all educational institutions you attended. Do they want from Primary school to university or do you just go back to high school? My wife has a few degrees and we ran out of room on the High School. There wasn't enough room for Middle and Primary.

Also when it comes time to mail in the DS-230 do we also need to mail in the I-864's?

In my wife's case we only listed higher education.

Follow what the OF-169 says to send back. I believe it does not say send the affidavit of support only mail them the DS-230 and OF-169

Have a question. I noticed on the DS-230 that on line 22 there is not enough room for both address and city. That is the line where the Father's address belongs. On line 27 of the mothers address there are 2 lines. Which is enough room for both address, City, Province, Country. Is there a reason that you can not get all the information on line 22? Or would it be better to fill the form out by hand and not on the computer?

Also on my step-daughters DS-230 on line 30 list Person's who will accompany you to the U.S. I have left it blank because she has no children and is unmarried. Since my name is not appearing on this DS-230 how will they process this with my wife's DS-230? Case numbers are different but she is applying for a CR-2 and the Wife a CR-1 Visas? I guess that may be the answer not sure.

On line 30 where it asks to list all the homes that you have lived in since the age of 16, since she is 16 would we just list the current address?

Almost finished with both DS-230 forms. These are just a few questions that have me scratching my head.
