China-Mainland Police Certificate

The National Visa Center requested a China Mainland Police cetificate from my wife in Shenzhen. She was successful in obtaining it and Fed-Exed Air to the United States. My concern is it was only in the Chinese language. I wonder if the NVC will request it to be translated into English

Most of the documents needed can be obtained from one of China's Notarial Offices (Gong Zheng Chu). All Chinese documentation to be used abroad is processed through the notary offices and issued in the form of notarial certificates. Notarial offices are located in all major Chinese cities and in rural county seats

 

The documents required are the GongZhengShu 公证书

 

A notarial document will be in the standard white notarial booklet, have an official red seal, an English translation, and an attestation to the true translation.

Persons should apply for a certificate of no criminal record at the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) (or certain types of employers such as state owned enterprises), then make application to the notary office for a certificate based on the PSB document.

NVC may request a translation, the notary office in China can translate it for you.

 

Also opt in to the electronic process at NVC, this way documents can be scanned and emailed to NVC.

Technically NVC should not require a translation because they assume the consulate will translate or be able to read the documents, however, Guangzhou consulate has been known to require translations..

 

NVC:

 

Translation Requirements

 

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

• Translation is accurate, and
  
• Translator is competent to translate.

We got a Chinese translation of the Police Certificate. She had to go back to her home village. I think it was around 400 rmb for translation. We didn't know if it was necessary or not for the transaction so we did it anyway. Email the Police Certificate alone with the other documents to NVC. Aboit 2 weeks later, my case was forwarded to Guangzhou. To answer your question, I don't know if it's required or not for translation.

Regarless of weather the NVC lets you slid without the translation you will HAVE to have it for the interview.

 

Just get the translation along with the attestation and police report. It is VERY easy to do and is a routine chore for them to do. No way she will get through the interview without the stamps seals and words of the translation. It will come neatly put together in what we call a "white book". I'm kinda surprised they didn't offer it to her.

 

Good luck, it can get a little overwhelming with some of the junk they want but this is an easy thing to get.
