Beachey
My wife and I have had pretty good luck taking the subway rather than cabs in the big Chinese cities(Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong). The subway tends to be much faster than sitting in traffic in a cab with added bonus is it is much cheaper. Looking at the map it looks to be a straight shot down Line 3. We are staying at a hotel between East Train Station and the consulate. Any idea how long it takes? A realize that the subways are typically crowded but are they sardine-packed? We will have our bags. Any other tips? Edited June 5, 2011 by Beachey (see edit history) Link to comment
PapaJJ
7rmb, 27 minutes, it was crowded but not sardine style when we did it a few weeks ago. I had some big bags as well as a stroller and had no issues with finding a place for us to sit, even on the way back. Link to comment
xiaozhu
If your hotel is close to East Train Station and Consulate (they are very close in 5 minutes walking), just take airport shuttle at the airport. They have many different lines to downtown. I took Line 6 (RMB 20) to Citic Plaza which is 5 minutes walking to the consulate and 10 minutes walking to East Train Station. It is very comfortable and you can take a look at Guangzhou. If you are not sure which line is right for you, just ask people there or call your hotel information desk. But as I know Line 6 is the right one to the consulate. Link to comment
