Guest Pommey
Lets not turn this into a whos better debate. lets just look at these to start ; 1. USA police- law enforcement 2. China police- public security 3. UK- police by public consent USA law is unchallengeable, a absolute that holds society in order, only can be challenged by lawyers in courts to other lawyers or in govt populated by lawyers. its all about the law. China law- its written yes but is interpreted by Taoist thought and action and is challenged daily in life, lawyers have little power. Its more about living. UK- A legal system disguised to support inequality. clearly the all develop and change over time, but who does the rule of law really serve and protect ? Link to comment
chengdu4me
In theory, the rule of law is meant to protect everyone from any threat against their person, property, and liberties. In practice, it allows those with enough money to skirt the laws as long as the crime isn't too bad. Old sayings get to be old saying because they are true. We live by the Golden Rule. He who has the gold, makes the rules. I don't think I have ever heard of a poor person getting a law passed if some rich folks didn't jump on their bandwagon with them. Link to comment
Jeikun
next lets look at these ; 1. Wet-cured Ham- brine cured and mild2. Smoked Ham- Hickory smoked usually3. Country Ham- Special diet salty Wet-cured hams are most common, soaked in brine or injected with it to flavor and preserve freshness with minimal refrigeration and having a mild and sweeter taste. It¡¯s all about preserving moisture. Smoking Hams ¨C it¡¯s the most popular in America, yes but often done poorly with vaporized fake smoke flavor. Good ones are smoked using hickory, peach, pecan or others. Its more about flavor. Country Ham- Pigs fed a special diet then the ham is cured in salt. clearly the all develop and change over time, but which method is really the most tasty? Link to comment

Try it if you get a chance. It's really good! Yup! Being from Virginia and relocating to California I had almost given up on ever having Smithfield ham again until I found out the local Ranch 99 has it. Apparently it's the closest thing you can get to Jinhua ham in the USA. So if you like Jinhua ham, or want to make ·ðÌøǽ , get a smithfield Edited July 1, 2009 by Jeikun (see edit history) Link to comment
whome?
In theory, the rule of law is meant to protect everyone from any threat against their person, property, and liberties. In practice, it allows those with enough money to skirt the laws as long as the crime isn't too bad. Old sayings get to be old saying because they are true. We live by the Golden Rule. The quickest way to the poorhouse and management issues, is to put the government in charge of your life, money, and institute new controls how people live and behave. The best way to curb anyone from foolish overspending is to take their wallet and credit card, and put them on bread and water until they learn how to manage their money. The more power given to government, the less freedom we all have. Link to comment
knloregon
...which is why I doubt that any life-long Democrat, (Such as myself) can return from even one trip to China, without being changed---indeed transformed---about gov. and individual fiscal responsibility... Link to comment

knloregon
I think Pommey has done an interesting job of briefly distinguishing 3 legal systems. But in MHO this is not about flavor. On this, of all days should be a reminder of that. I love China, but its lack of individual rights---where individuals can redress grievances in courts of law---in a meaningful, and impartial way, is as we have discussed, the reason anger and frustration at these unaddressed crimes, boils over into the streets. Its also not fair, in my estimation to characterize GB as less lawful, or cynically applying the law for other purposes, particularly since so much of our law evolved, or indeed, was expropriated from Britain. And it took seven centuries of struggle against the monarch's 'divine right' (beginning with the Magna Carta) to achieve our recognition of individual rights, and fair system of laws and their application---perfect? no. "We The People" ---so began the American journey in the complete and final break from the Monarchy on this day 233 years ago. To me, thats not about flavor---it was then, and remains today, a fundamentally different experiment in how people govern themselves, hold their leaders politically----and legally----accountable, and access the courts to impartially bring justice regarding a wide range of crimes and civil grievances. China has nothing like this. Although I'm confident it will evolve to a system of equitable law in much less than the 700 years we have been on this journey. Link to comment
