Fall is in the air. A time when our thoughts turn to falling leaves, football, and, yes, Taxpayer Identification Numbers.

While Mia received her SSN not too shortly after she arrived last March, her 12 year old son doesn't have one. Am i correct that he may not apply for a SSN until he is of working age?

Assuming that, we'll need a TIN (IRS Form W-7) to generate a number for our so close in arriving tax form.

is this the route others are taking?

Brian,

Your 12 year old son can get SSN after you get his green card. Ella got her SSN in about 2 weeks because she had temp. EAD card. I did not waste the money for EAD for my daughter since she is only 10. We have our AOS interview Nov. 20th. Then will apply for my daughters SSN and should have it by the end of this year.
