Words from Guangzhou

I had a nice visit with a VO today. He did tell me that it helps alot for the USC to attend ACH. After answering some simple questions and a little visiting, he told me he was making a note in our file that I cared enough to make the early trip to attend ACH even though our interview isn't until next Thursday (29th).

 

Anyway, The Yang's have been extremely (!!!!) helpful here at Tian Yu Garden Hotel. This part of Guangzhou has many beautiful buildings, the weather is warm, the parks are clean and in bloom. I look forward to a pleasant week exploring the region with Ling while we wait for Thursday to come. I feel a little more comfortable about the whole process now that I have been up to the mysterious "5th floor". I'm very visual so I usually have to see things with my own eyes before I feel like I have a grasp of what is going on.

Yes the Yangs are great. I too had the same feeling when I asked my questions at ACH, and Requested the extra set of P4 paperwork, the lady was quite pleasant, and did make a point of entering the fact that I was there into the system, I truly feel the fact I was with my fiancee in Guangzhou for the interview, just made it that much easier on her.

 

Explore and have a good time there, Mr Yang is quite a lot of help and knows a lot about preparing for the interview.

Yes, the Park across the street is beautiful and Mr. Yang is very helpful. Listen to him and relax and enjoy. I felt more confident after meeting dnoblett(Dan) and attending ACH.

Lily and I were lucky in that the same VO that I talked with at ACH was also the VO who interviewed her.

I'm off to see my lady in a couple of weeks and I've told her about Mr. Yang and how we will stay there, go to Guangzhou a week early so she can get her medical, and I can attend ACH. She feels so much more at ease and confidant, even if we got a blue slip she understands it could be a two or three part process....but we are working on ONE. I love the fact that I can be there with her for this important part of our lives.

American Citizens Hour. I dont think an invite is necessary (not sure). The above link is the link to the USCONGUZ and ACH. Spend some time there looking up 'fiancee' visas in the visa section. It has a FAQ section that is very helpful. Great site!

BTW, when looking up info on the USCONGUZ site, look under 'Immigrant Visas'......though the K1 is technically a non-immigrant visa, USCONGUZ treats it as an immigrant visa.

Curt ... exploring advice ...

 

Stand in front of the consulate. Face the street. Turn right 90 degrees. Walk about 100-150 meters until you see an old stone Chinese gate to your right. Turn right, go through the gate.

 

You'll see a very large rectangular fish pond. Bear right, walk down the right side of the pond. About half way down you'll find a Chinese Muslim restaurant a little off of the corner on a very small side street. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner.

 

Back to the pond. Continue to the end. Great bakery on the left.

 

Continue down the street the bakery is on until it opens to a square. Look left ... huge market anything you could imagine, including great prepared food and fresh fruit, at very local prices.

 

There's lots to explore ...

 

Go to the bus station. Take a bus to the Zoo. Be sure to visit the goldfish exhibit, it's world class ... and bring your camera. You can see the goldfish at my website. Click China and then select Guangzhou Zoo. There's also a view of the aforementioned fish pond under the Guangzhou Visa Trip tab.

Heh, thanks! I found most of that the first morning. I'm a natural-born explorer. First thing I do in a new environment is explore the immediate area to get my bearings. Ling arrives in GZ tonight and Sunday we'll try out that restaurant together.
