How to change Address

Recommended Posts

Here is what I have pulled together about changing address...

Any comments/corrections or experiences welcomed to comment...

------------

There are three principle places to change an address, depending on where you are in the process:

SERVICE CENTER, P1, P2 STAGES:

USCIS : 1-800-375-5283

File form AR-11 for the beneficary, with the information, including your "A" number.

The completed form should be mailed to:

U.S Department of Homeland Security

Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration

Change of Address

PO Box 7134

London, KY 40742-7134

For commercial overnight or fast freight services, only:

U.S Department of Homeland Security

Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration

Change of Address

1084-I South Laurel Road

London, KY 40744

NVC, CONSULATE STAGES:

DOS/NVC/Consulate Contact info:

NVC number, 603-334-0700

DOS 1-202-663-1225

GUZ Fax #:

While in China: 020-38844412

While in the US: 011-86-20-38844412

(For GUZ, you must fax the new address, you cannot email it).

AOS, REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS, NATURALIZATION STAGES:

USCIS National Benefits Center (NBC)

NBC: 1-800-375-5283

File form AR-11 for the beneficary, with the information, including your "A" number. (see address above)

File form I-865 for petitioner, sent to the Service Center in which district you will be residing. ( Note: The I-865 address change is not actually required prior to the Adjustment of Status being approved, as the I-864 is not enforceable until then).

I've never changed an address but have a question that has not been addressed below. I moved between the time my family picked up their visas and the time I will file AOS. My plan is simply to supply the current address when we file the next papers. Nothing has been mailed to me re: the case since June anyway. Any problem you see, handling it this way?

For time periods inbetween stages, you have to consider the next stage as the applicable one... therefore, the AOS stage is now your stage. I should consider Removal of Conditions and Naturalization as well in this...

Since the USCIS number is the same for the petition and benefits agencies.. I'd call them to confirm what they want prior to filing AOS... and let us know. :)

Although my note says that the I-865 is not needed till after the I-864 is filled, I suspect it's best to get something to USCIS regardless, since changing the address on a petition is probably fine for that petition's needs, but I'm not sure they cross check their system to update it anywhere else.

I do remember reading that whoever the sponser is on the I-864, they have to submit an address change form in 14? days of a move. I may be wrong on the days, but I do remember it is rather fast.

Not sure if you filed a I-864 for the K3 at NVC, but I know someone files one at NVC.

Actually, it's 10 days :)

(only CR1s file a I-864 at NVC, or DCF brings to interview)

I have a question on change of address. I moved at the start of August when my SO was waiting for her P3. I put off informing NVC, DOS and Guangzhou of the address change in fear that it may delay/screw up the process. Now my SO has gotten her P4 and an Interview date. And since some of the forms we completed for her interview will have my new address on them, I think this might be the right time to inform someone (e.g. DOS, NVC and/or Guangzhou) about the change of address. Anyone disagree? If I need to inform, who and how should I go about doing that?

Thanks much!

I would say now is the time to do it by faxing GUZ. Otherwise the P4 forms will have an address that conflicts with the one GUZ has.

Will submit a change of address at this stage (received p4 and an interview date) increase the chance of a denial? I seem to remember a post that eluded to that.

Since my SO will bring proof of the home purchase (deed and copy of the Settlement Statement showing the 8/1 closing date) to her interview, would it be better to take a chance to see if the VO notices the conflict before mentioned that "oh yea, we bought a house and here is the proof." I am not sure if this approach will piss off the VO and cause a denial because certain "regulation" (e.g. not informing GUZ of the address change) was not followed.

Any thoughts? Thanks much!

One other thing needed for beneficiary change on the AOS AR-11. The petitioner needs to call USCIS and have the beneficiary present as well to either confirm or give permission. This will allow the official at the USCIS to input the info into the infamous computer. I did not have to verify my 865 info. I'm guessing because I am a U.S. citizen. (1 benefit of being a citizen)

Our tax dollars hard at work! :D

This is from personal experience just last week for us. Every thing else David has presented is exactly correct...

Good info David... as always!

(I received a confirmation letter on my 865 but not on the AR-11 so that prompted my call and this is the procedure I was told)

and a light bulb goes off :D

Now I understand the comment I had read which said that submitting the AR-11 changes the address, but not on applications... :toot: meaning any current application(s) still require the call !! THANKS !
