beijingjenny
I'm not optimistic at all, but Jack doesn't think it's a question. He's a retired farmer with no money, no wife, nothing. And we aren't rolling in the money for supporting him (I mean, we can, no problem but don't know if they will see it that way). Any ideas what else he can do/show? He does own land and Jack told him to bring the deed. Also, is there a way for us to pay the visa fee for him? Jack is pretty sure others he knows do this for their parents but I thought it could only be done in person at a CITIC bank in China. Thanks! Link to comment
LeeFisher3
You could send him money for the visa fee by Western Union. Link to comment
beijingjenny
Yeah, we'll have to send money anyway to pay for his ticket, if he gets it. Jack might just send him his bank card. But just wanted to know if it were true we could pay it here or not. Sorry I've been a stranger, we've moved city and state, Jack's working 12 hour days and I'm trying to manage the babes and home on my own...! Link to comment
beijingjenny
Also, anyone have a good link for the list of CITIC banks? The one from the consulate site kept giving me an error. Link to comment

However, if it is a visitor visa, I would have strong doubts. Everything you wrote indicates he would have no good reason to go back to China. This would seem to kill the deal for sure on a visitor visa. Link to comment

Maybe you will get some firsthand informations. should be this one is nearest to GZ consulat office Sub-branch in CITIC PlazaAdd: 233 Tian He North Rd., Guangzhou 510613Fax: 020-87754463 Tel: 020-87521188 Edited April 21, 2006 by yuliki (see edit history) Link to comment
warpedbored
If you want the father to move here Jack can file an I-130 for him. It is a second priority visa though and subject to quotas. It would take a few years to make it's way through the system. Don brought up once though that if the Chinese petitioner were to go ahead and file it now, then once they become an american citizen they are no longer subject to quotas. The process is then much like a K-visa in timeline and you would be that much further along because of filing while still a resident alien. skibum
Getting a tourist visa seems to depend on how many siblings he Jack has still in China. If there are none, poor chance. Link to comment
lishelisa
Jenny, you can apply for your father in law, the chance is 50/50. My husband and I applied for my father to attend my graduation. My father is a poor farmer, unfortunatly, he was denied in the 1st interview. My husband and I were able to try again, fortunatly, he got his B2 visa in couple seconds this time . Because my village is far from us consulate, he had to travel by bus, mini bus, taxi and over night stay in hotel. It was so expensive for him to make visa trip, once cost 2500 yuan, which is his 6 months hard working on the field without eating. Now he is here over 1 month, and we are planning to bring him boating and fishing on "father'"s day. He had been on our local newspaper "Poststar" frontpage this is really make him proud. When he was denied in 1st interview, I was so upset. My daddy always asked me that is my life look like the television shows on the phone. So I am so earge to want he see and experience my life here in USA. I am very appericiate my husband make this happen. Now, we are really enjoy living together for some quality time now. So, Please keep try. Edited June 16, 2006 by lishelisa (see edit history) Link to comment

change2marrow
I wrote this in a post involving the same issue as yours. Hope it will help. Never been to another country will be an issue and most likely one that will be brought up in the interview or one of the reasons for a denial. I tried to look at it from "what are the odds" point of view too, but you can't really do that. There is no defined criteria, so you can't use any kind of number system. One option is to get as close as you can to their undefined criteria and schedule an interview. After the first denial you'll know what to overcome so you can change the status of the denial. Repeat the same steps to change the next denial. Crazy as it sounds, it's common to interview 2, 3,... times. Someone else mentioned on CFL about traveling with a tour group, but I have no idea how that works or if it works. Note: I've witnessed one case that the person trying to travel to the states didn't have employment and money. So, they came back providing proof of employment and financial records. The consulate did their homework and found that the employment was fake and found a recent large sum of money was deposited into the bank account. They were denied again and was told that they had a 10% chance of ever coming to the states. So, be careful how you handle the overcoming evidence. At any rate, try and see what happens. Good luck.
