jim_julian
The best way is to call the State Dept visa people in the US. The number is 1.202.663.1225. Press 1-0-0 to skip through the menus and get to a person. Have your GUZ number ready (or WAC if you don't have the GUZ as yet) along with the benficiary's name and birth date. You want to ask if GZ has the electronic file and then do they have the hard copy file. Ask if name checks have been initiated and/or are complete. Check the many posts in this area to get a feel for progress and what else to ask. Link to comment

GUZ will give you a phone # to their 'Visa call center' which is a pay-service. We paid and called them, and never really got good, up to date information. Someone at the call center told us that GUZ updates their computer every monday, so the information is delayed. DOS is free (except for your long distance charges) and can provide you more timely information (updated daily) as well as much more than the call center can provide. Link to comment
