I was going to create a map, but seeing this one, I'll just reference it with spots you should know about in this one block radius:

North section:

1) The train station part is set back from the subway and train entrances. The subway is probably preferred if you go down to the shopping districts (wedding dressings, waterfront, etc) as traffic seems to always be awful. Buses follow prescribed routes and are quite slow over longer distances; taxi are expensive and you pay for the wait as well.

2) A Bank of China (BOC) is at the NW area behind subway.

West section:

1) Second floor of Star Hotel is a very nice "tea" room where you get food for that occasion. I would recommend checking it out.

2) From the Star Hotel, turning right to the south, you will see travel agency and Kodak photo shop (for photo development and passport pictures).

3) South west corner area has a hotel

South section:

1) The Citi Plaza appeared to be in three sections, but behind the second one, Gallery, you can pay for your visa at the Citi Industrial Bank...

2) In the front area of the Plaza, you will see a McDonalds and Blenz coffee shop. Also a "7-11" store.

3) If you keep going behind all those building and then walk west, you'll see another BOC.. and Thai restaurant in large lighted area...

East section:

1) Consulate line forms on south side of building.

2) The 001 suites entrance is on the north side; across the street is a hotel.

3) If one walks along the north side of the consulate building, but walking to the east, you will find a few shops:

a. OTC medicine

b. Fruit

c. Beauty shop

d. Copy store (copy machine, blank white paper, etc)

e. Small restaurant with very good dumplings (jiao zi).

f. Office supply store

g. small shops to buy beer

4) Go to the end of this and turn right [ on Linhe Dong Road]... A few more small food places, a VCD/DVD store, baby needs store, liquor store and in a block, a BOC... Across the street is a doctors office/hospital...

This thread was started over four years ago. Is the information still correct? Surely some things have changed. Would those of you who have been to GUZ recently (6 mo - 1 year) take a look at the information posted in this thread?

It'd be nice to update the content if need be.

Hi Randy,

The link you posted

is resulting in a 400 error. Please let me know if it is due to my location (China), and I'll figure out a way to get to it.

The new consulate is going to be nice!

There is a bus from the airport, #6b (I THINK) that stops at the NW corner of the CITIC Plaza. I also prefer the subway station entrance at the SW corner of the CITIC Plaza. It is the Orange/Red Line, and you change trains at the first stop for the Yellow Line. Less crowded and no smog from the buses. The metro is the way to fly, shopping, restaurants, anywhere you want to go. Also, You can save money by negotiating a set price for your taxi ride, they want your business. We love GUZ, and Mr. Yangs, have fun, Mike & Yizhen
