  1. Why Wife Question #3 Q. Why do you leave the leftovers in a bowl on the counter? Wouldn't the refrigerator be better? A. Cooked food does not belong in the refrigerator.
  2. Bummer Absentee divorces (when one of the parties is not present) can present some problems with notification, serving papers, acknowledgements, etc. If you are intent on going through with it and she is definitely headed back, my recommendation is to finish it here rather than trying to finish it after she is gone.
  3. I suspect we'll end up with a hood exhaust over the island, but I'll probably wait until Jingwen starts yelling at the cooktop. As far as the ovens go, it'll be up to me to do the baking. I think Jingwen would prefer to use the ovens to store her pots and pans.
  4. Ventilation is a must. We have a very good exhaust fan, but it's in the ceiling (think old house). Jingwen has tripped the smoke alarm a number of times. We just put a contract on a larger house. The cooking surfaces are in an island with a downdraft exhaust. I can almost guarantee you it won't be enough. Also, the kitchen has a double oven. My guess is that it will be used for storage.
  5. You're almost there, and the light at the end on the tunnel just got a little brighter. Stay calm and it'll be over before you know it. Best of luck.
  6. Wonderful story and update, Dean. Yes, you should start a "why husband" thread. I'm willing to bet that it will rank right up there among the most posted.
  7. The VO didn't even bother to look at it. She just checked out a couple of the photos
  8. Probably a dumb question, but does the I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, need to be filed for an AOS for K-1?. Dave G's checklist showed his filing the I-130, but Eric&Yuhui's checklist did not.
  9. Congratulations and best wishes to you and your family.
  10. Everything, INCLUDING the kitchen sink. If I recall, Jingwen had the following: All the packet 4 documents (assembled by the medical clinic) The results of the medical exam and x-rays (assembled by the clinic) Visa fee receipt (included in the assembled packet by the medical clinic) Her passport, signed by her on the last page The I-134 and copies of tax returns and other financial information Police certificate (included with the assembled packet) Divorce certificate (included with the assembled packet) Child custody document (included with the assembled packet) Birth certificate (included with the assembled packet) Visa photos (included with the assembled packet) E-mail correspondence Transcripts of Yahoo chats Video of Yahoo webcam chats Snail mail correspondence and greeting cards Phone records Tons of pictures All receipts (including airline bording passes/receipts) from previous visits to China All correspondence with GZ during the process Copies of the I-129f and G-325 Gift receipts My passport The kitchen sink I've probably forgotten some things, but I'm sure other will chime in.
  11. Good news. The pace will start picking up now. Dotting the i's and crossing the t's will take on new significance.
  12. Just in case she missed reading about them - some signs and road hazards: http://www.allpros-drivers-ed.com/Humour/T...op10/top10.html http://www.allpros-drivers-ed.com/Humour/P...otos-signs.html And...parallel parking: http://www.allpros-drivers-ed.com/Humour/V..._1/video_1.html http://webpages.charter.net/bdube/Humor/PM...S%20Parking.wmv
  13. Wonderful news. Congratulations to you and Lannie. Frank and Jingwen
  14. Congratulations!!!!! It won't be long now. Welcome to America.
  15. AAC also has the forms in .jpg format, but I think you need to be a member to access the files section. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Asian_American_Couples/
  16. For Jingwen, getting out of China (mainland) required only her passport with the K-1 visa. Getting into Hong required the passport/visa and a copy of the airplane ticket showing transit to the US within seven days. I was told by the airline (United) that an itinerary would be sufficient (for e-ticket passengers), but I went ahead a popped for a paper ticket just to be safe.
  17. When we applied for Jingwen's kids (K-2), we had to complete separate DS-230's for each of them and pay the visa fees as well. Each kid had a passport, birth certificate, police clearance, medical results, photos, etc. - just about everything that Jingwen had to produce. I'm guessing the same would apply to the K-4.
  18. Wonderful news, Dan!!!!!!! Congratulations to you both. Now, the fun begins.
  19. I started a list, but it kept growing, so I threw it out. Good thing too. Everything I bought, and I mean everything, from the linens and towels to the wok didn't seem to fit with Jingwen's needs/tastes. I could have saved more money if I didn't buy a thing until she arrived. Fortunately, I was able to blame the condition of the house on the landlord. But, even that hasn't stopped her from transforming it into her home. Don't worry about what you did or what you should have done. It won't make any difference. Have fun watching your world change before your eyes.
  20. I really don't know, but my sense was that the immigration officer was not that interested. Maybe all you need to do is to teach your fiancee is say "sorry, I don't understand".
  21. Carl, just remember, aging is inevitable, but maturing is optional.
  22. Jingwen and the kids went through SFO last month. Bob is right - just follow the crowds. Make sure that they have completed thier I-94s and customs declaration before they get off the plane. It can be a pain to try to complete them while standing in line. For her and her daughter, two I-94's will have to be completed, but only one customs declaration is needed per family. First, they will go through immigration. Tell her to use the visitors line, not the immigrants line and not the citizen line. Have them go to the window together. The immigration officer will take their sealed brown envelopes and passports. He/she will take the I-94 and write in the A# and staple it to one of the pages of the passport. He/she might ask a question or two and will take their pictures and fingerprints. After they clear immigration, they'll claim their baggage and go through customs and give the customs officer the declaration. Usually, this is painless. They will then have to re-check their baggage for their connecting flight. All is all, for Jingwen, it was fairly straightforward. I went through immigration with them since we were together on the flight. The officer tried to ask Jingwen a few questions, but her English wasn't good enough for him to understand, so her asked me a couple of questions - how we met, what was the purpose of her "visit", etc.
  23. Congratulations and best wishes. Phase II (AOS) begins Frank and Jingwen
