  1. Yes work auth letter should be same as EAD (Employment Authorization Document). Take that along with photo ID and SSN to DMV and should be able to renew the permit. Should also be able to order a new SSN card from SSA using the EAD, first I heard of an expired date on a SSN card, must be new, my wife's first card did not have an expire date, after she got green-card we had the card replaced with one without the Valid With notation. I meant to say a SSN (Number) will never change.

thanks everyone. Can you renew a SS card online? I will try that if possible. Much better than sitting there for 2 hours waiting for you number to be called.

  2. Ok my wife did the biometrics back in late november. In March we got the work authorization letter along with the letter saying our form was send to CSC. However, she has not been able to get any kind of valid id except the work authorization piece.

She had a SS card when she got here along with a learners permit. Those both expired when her visa expired in October. The dmv was telling me we have to wait for the welcome letter to get new id. So Anyway its now late June and she hasnt had a valid id since November. Am I missing something? It would be nice if she could get her learners permit renewed so she could take drivers ed and not be stuck at home all day. I am in Oklahoma btw.

  3. We got married last week. I am trying to get the I-485 submitted and trying to get her on my work benefits at the same time. I have a couple of questions

    1. She has a SS#. Will she get a new number now that we are married? Does the SS office require that we are through the I-485 process before they will give her a new one or do they just need to see a marriage certificate?

    2. What is the current fee I need to send in with the I-485 application. I cant seem to find an updated fee chart?

I think thats it for now. Probably will have more questions later.

  4. and I came home with a Chinese!!!

As you can see I already put her to work! She arrived July 26th and has been adjusting well. This is actually my first day back to work. I have been really busy helping her settle in. Some observations so far

I live in the middle of my city but at first she thought I lived in the countryside.

She seems to like most american food but still doesnt like ice in her drink or anything too sweet.

She says its very peaceful here. no people and not much traffic (compared to china)

She has trouble understand many of my friends and family's English.

I let her drive for the first time ever in a large parking lot. She almost hit a pole haha. she liked it but said it was really stressful.

Here is another picture more up close of her since that one is blurry

My friend and his chinese wife arrived the exact same day as Jia. His wife is having a harder time adjusting. They live with his parents in the countryside near fayetteville in a very large house on alot of land. She didnt want to move here in the first place though. We actually visited them in Arkansas and Jia took many pictures of the countryside. She really liked and enjoyed being able to see the stars at night. Both girls tried to drive my friends tractor used for mowing but they were too light for the deadman's safety so the tractor would not move for them.

  5. Jia said her interview was really easy and the other girls waiting were so surprised how quick it was for her and that she only had to show a couple of things to the interviewer. But we also fit their guidlines pretty well I think. No possible red flags that I can think of at all.

  6. Just to let you know whats coming Turbo. I called DOS this morning. Our petition left NVC on March 23rd. As of today consulate still has not received.

That is of course if I got the right information?!

I just called them today too. My application left the NVC on April 12th and they sent out packet 3 today. The NVC had given met the wrong case number at first though so we werent able to update the address before P3 was sent out. No biggie because she did a self generated P3 and will submit an address change with the correct case number as soon as she reads my email. Anyway, March 23rd sounds like way too long to wait. Is it still stuck in security? Are you a spy? Good luck!

  7. I had posted this on that other site so I may as well post it here also, I give you all this quote " I will mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.¡± ¡ª Martin Luther King Jr

And everyone that has quoted MLK I have given this quote

Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

BTW it was discovered that that MLK quote isnt even a real quote by him. Its a mix of one of his quotes butchered by some girl on Twitter that added her own words.

  9. Hello Turbo,

Looks like we are close to the same Timeline.

I received my letter from NVC dated March 24 2011. They received an approved petition...blah blah blah.

I contacted NVC last week, by phone. Gave them my INS receipt number. The lady told me they forwarded to GUZ the same day. So thursday will be 3 weeks since they received and shipped.

Guess we will see what happens. My Fiancee and I have a bet. She says June for interview. I am guessing August.

    You can contact me anytime.

    I am K1 visa also

thank you. Ya your like me. I thought her interview would be in August and she thinks sooner. The NVC sent out my package to the consulate early this week. I guess I am going to have to try and guess when the consulate will receive it to put in a change of address for Jia before they send out packet 3.

Also does anyone know where you can go online to see if packet 3 has been sent out to your fiance?

    Thanks

  10. Ok I have put in alot of time looking into all this stuff getting ready for the interview and looking at the forms etc. I still have some questions though.

    1. Is it at the NVC when I can choose to do electronic processing? How do I opt in for that? Call them up?

    2. After choosing to opt in for electronic processing how do we go about packet 3? They have the DS230 or whatever that form is called so I assume if you fill that out online you dont need a mailing address label? What about the copy of her biography page on her passport? How can we file that electronically?

    3. If you do online processing how do you provide a signature on any form????

    4. Does the police report need to be done in her hometown? Also I didnt see a form for them to fill out? do they just give you a copy of their report?

    5. I heard once they say packet 3 has been sent it could take 3 weeks to arrive. I heard its ok if you send it back and it gets to the consulate the same day as it gets to her place its fine. Once they say its been sent (eventhough its just sitting in a pile somewhere) is it ok to send in your completed packet 3? also how does this apply to electronic processing? do they email her instead and she has to email them back?

this electronic processing is confusing me some and i really couldnt find good directions about the filing on the guanzhou website. Sorry for so many questions but I am just trying to iron out the details since my application is at the NVC right now and I want to be done with this as quick as possible. We already have a case number from the NVC btw.

    Thanks.

  11. Nope, NVC has nothing to do with K-Visas, they simply assign a GUZ case number and then forward the case to the consulate.

Later when the consulate eventually receives the case, they then send out a packet (P3) to beneficiary in China which contains Instructions, DS-230 part 1, and I-134. MORE: http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/forms_and_packets.htm

You can download the I-134 from USCIS.GOV prepare it and attach financial evidence to it like (Past 3 years IRS returns, or IRS transcripts, Copies of recent pay stubs, and a letter from employer..) then send this over to beneficiary to have ready for interview. Recommended to do this after beneficiary receives the instruction packet (P3), closer to the interview date. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=fe3647a55773d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Call NVC a couple weeks after NOA2 and get GUZ number, you need to talk to a human, the automated system will not have it. Once have GUZ number you can email updated address to the consulate, http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/immigrant-visa-unit-question.html

It has been reported that the consulate sometimes telephones beneficiary to confirm address.

thank you, you answered my other post earlier as well! B)

  12. Ok so I got my NOA2 last week. Based on what I have been reading, the NVC will send me a letter (including the I-34) saying they received my packet next correct?

Then (hopefully) soon afterwards they will send the packet to China?

Then the embassy mails packet 3 to my fiance correct?

My fiance has changed her address since we mailed in the NOA1. I heard some bad stories here about trying to change fiances address with the NVC and for some reason it doesnt get changed. I heard its better to change her address with the consulars office in China. But how will I know I can call the embassy to change her address? I dont want them to get the application and turn around and mail out packet 3 to her without me having a chance to change her address.

So what I assume I should do then is get the DHL tracking number and when I see its delivered to China, call them up and have my fiances address changed?

  13. Just curious what the current timeline you guys a seeing from when you get your visa sent to Guanzhou until you get an interview? Is China typically a quicker or slower consulate than other countries? Just curious.

I was told I should get my NOA2 decision within a week. I know its got to go to the NVC next and all the packet stuff but I am just trying to get a better idea.

  14. I think the norm right now is over 6 months. Check out my thread about getting a service request in. I am over 6 months right now, and it was like pulling teeth to get a service request.

What excatly is a service request? I think it is something I should be aware of? and maybe something i should do?

It expedites your NOA2 so they start working on it quicker. However, if your at Vermont dont expect to get one until you hit the 6 month mark from your NOA1. Even at 6 months you have to get lucky and talk to the right person that will do it for you.
