  1. parties in China also involves beers, loud music, dances, kara-oks, etc. Most of the college students should have already experienced that during that 4 years...

American ones are "crazier" if not more, if you explain things in advance, there wouldn't be any so-called "culture shock"...it's rather kinda of an understanding.

    Have a good time!!

  2. Eric:

Yes, the apparently run namechecks on all those babies being adopted from China. Someone posted this recently on this board after having talked to some of the adoptive parents while on Shamian Island in GZ. This is the most idiotic thing I think I heard yet...well....it ranks right up there. Then again, by now nothing surprises me.

    Clifton:

I am all for unified action. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

It can't be... As much as I have lost faith in my government this side of the Atlantic, this can't be that ridiculous and a waste of our tax money..

My thought is that they might run a check on the natural parents, not the baby ...( It happens that natural parents do change their mind ) . Then again... I gave up months ago trying to make sense of ANYTHING.

ha..maybe when new york city hosts Olympics in 2008, DOS will run namechecks on all the horses come into this country, but I suggest they do it earlier.... :) :D :D

  3. What is it with these people?!  They acknowledge that your pick-up letter is ready, but they are holding it with others to send as a group?!  What else are they going to think of to continue to delay these visa pick-ups?!  Why on God's green earth are they holding these instead of just sending them out?!

Let's see...What would be the worst possible time for people to receive their pick-up letter?  Oh, yes right before the start of the Spring Holiday!  Hold on to those letters fellows, we will mail them next week!

Is somebody giving seminars in anti-customer service?  If they are not, they should.  They could make a fortune doing training for the Department of State.

Probably a good thing that it is impossible to get through on the GZ phones right now.

yeah im kinda in a pressed for time situation too im going to deploy SOOON and the situation was explained briefly. they just said to wait they will send them "very soon" and said that faxing the pick-up letter is imposible and cant notify us any other way. Do ya really think they would turn you down if you showed up to pick-up the visa without a piece of paper?

Bulk mail is cheaper, maybe GZ wants to reduce cost

  4. snip>> then she wanted to inform that ALL the cases from August 1 to October 31 have been resubmitted>>>>snip

They might have asked GZ to resubmit ALL name checks ( in my case 1/14 ), but they certainly do not have ALL namecheck resubmitted by GZ, at least as of yesterday.

GZ: resubmitting names will take time, please bear with us a little longer ;) ;)

  5. I was once got Katherine's answer machine, and I left a message saying I was trying to check my case status, and left me phone number. A lady called me later and look up my case, which is good.

However, these days, I don't take what DOS says so seriously...oh...the government...maybe it's time to change the leaders...

  6. By the way, I mentioned in a post elsewhere that, now being the oldest male in our family, I inherited the title of Grandfather.  That makes Spring Festival very expensive for me!  Remember that here nieces and nephews call me grandfather.  Besides, I'm American, that means I'm rich!  I have a constant stream of kids coming after me for the red envelopes!  Talk about wanting to hide in the closet!

sometimes that does not go with ages, or how old you are, but rather goes with the generation - so it is highly possible that someone about the same age as yours call you grandfater :P  :o

the "red envelope" is a tradition, I guess in American, a grandfather would give his grandson stock shares or securities, like 2 shares of MOT :D but in China, cash is given out - usually they will say a prayer for you like best wishes for health, etc.

  7. To me, this whole name check business sounds like a dying patient still taking pills to reasure himself...though he himself deep down knows the pills won't cure him.

Maybe the GAO (General Accounting Office) at DC should do a cost-effective analysis on the way the state dept has been conducting its business so far...

In history, did namecheck ever found out anything, I mean from China? If I were a spy, I would have used a business visa purpose instead of immigrating, something like hit and run...

    :)
