The main thing they wanted to see is a true relationship.
She did the interview in Chinese. They asked her, "do you know much english" She responded no not much. Showed some photos of us and her family togeather.

She said the VO quized her about my Chinese speaking ability and how do we communicate, how did we meet and how many times have I been to China to see her and here is one I have never heard about. The VO asked all about my Parents who are now both deceased.

[CFL – CR1 interview 11/2005] –

1. She gave the visa officer her passport and mine.

2. The only questions he asked were where and when she met me.

3. He commented that on the original paperwork it said I had no job; she told him I had gotten a new one.
The he told her she passed. She said he had actually already started signing the paperwork before he asked any questions.

 

 

[CFL – interview 6/2005]

1.vo: how did you meet your husband?
    wife: i met him when he was working in china two years ago.
2. vo: what do your husband do for living?
    wife: he is netowrking consultant, he helps to build communication network in guangdong province, then my wife handed him

    my employment letter.

    wife: more than 7 times, and a longest stay was three month. then wife handed him my personal letter to the VO and my

    passport

 

[CFL – K1 interview 5/2006]

 

1. Question: What work did you finance do for many years?

SO Answer: He worked in the housing area many years

Reply: yes good, good
( comments: I had in my
ow we met letter?in the K-1 application that I had worked over 30 years in the housing industry, so I know they read the letter before the interview, perhaps this question was an attempt to know how well my SO knows me by knowing what line of work I did

2. Qustion: How Many times has he been to China? (this was asked as he was looking at pictures already in the K-1 application, he was commenting how nice the pictures were so my SO volunteered others of the second trip I took , but again he did not ask to see any.

SO Answer in English : He came in February 2005 and Sept 2005

Reply: After viewing the pictures was
ice very Nice?(We had prepared to show the Consulate pictures of my two trips to China of us together and with her family, the pictures he was reviewing were in my K-1 application I had sent 36 when I first went to China to meet my SO and our time together

3. Question: After seeing phone records in the K-1 File, he asked,
ow do you communicate on the phone? Does You Fianc?speak any Chinese?

SO answer: Oh, he (meaning me) speaks a little Chinese (very little) and I speak a little English, so we talk on the phone using little English and little Chinese, we use translations, etc. He was satisfied with the answer and did not ask for any additional relationship records.

Reply : good good

We were ready to present if needed a VHS of me and my SO communicating on tape. I made the tape on my second trip to China. I had put in the
ow we met Letter?for the initial I 129 F file that I took some basic Chinese lessons in order to communicate better with my SO. I had purposely inserted this comment to avoid the doubt if we could communicate after reading on CFL the VHS tapes that were needed for overcome. But again he did not ask for any VHS tape, etc.

4. Question Directed to SO son: Can you speak English,

Son reply: Yes a little

1. VO asks how we met
    she says "on internet"

3. VO asks how many times I came to China (she told him 3 times and I was outside waiting. She gives him my passport which he looks through)

    she tells him about 11 years ago but she doesn't kow the date

[CFL – interview 6/2005]

Q1: What is your husband's name?
A1: Duh. She also gives my regards to VO.

Q2: Where does he live?
A2: slight twist- She answers Portland, my residence is actually across river in Washington. VOs consult. OK.

Q3: What is his work/employer?
A3: she answers and shows him a company monthly magazine that highlights our Chinese operations.

Q4: How many times has he visited you?
A4: hands him my passport, answers.

Q5: Do you have pictures together/ correspondence?
A5: passes him a Chinese newspaper article showing us together. Also shows him an email (some of which is written in Chinese) that I sent her prior to applying for visa (apparently the email with Chinese writing BEFORE the application seemed to have great importance).

 

[CFL – CR1 interview 5/2006] – In English

1. How do you know your wife?
2. How many times has your wife visited you?
3. Where was your wife born?
4. Who filed the affidavit of support for you?
5. Have you ever been to the US?
6. Have you been to other countries?

 

 

[CFL – K1 interview 5/2006]

Q1. Have you ever been to the US?
A1. No, but if you agree I will be able to go.
This was meet with much laughter by both and greatly relaxed the VO and my SO. The rest of the interview was very relaxed from this point on.

Q2. How did you meet?
A2. We meet in Beijing while he (me) was on a business trip to China.

Q3. When did you meet?
A3. Just before chun jie (Spring Festival), end of January 2005

At some point the VO sees my SO has my passport and asks to see it. After looking through the pages he asks the following two questions:

Q4. Has he (me) ever been to Japan?
A4. No.

Q5. Has he ever been to South Korea?
A5. No.
(I was surprised at these two questions, but you can never know what the VO will ask. It pays to very well prepared)

VO6: Can I see your photos together?
She hands him our 8 pages of photos and he begins to look through them. Sees a photo of our engagement dinner and asks who the people are in the photo and she begins to name the people. The VO is impressed that my father travelled to China to meet my SO.

The VO then asked for and began to review the required documents. At the end of his review the VO said, I agree, you can go to the US. This was met with laughter from both.

 

 

[CFL – K3 Interview 2/2006]   In English

"Hi! How are you, sir?"

He replied, "Fine. Thank you.

Q1: So, do you feel comfortable speaking English?"

A1: "Yes. My English is OK."

Q2: "May I see your passport please?"

A2: "Yes, here you are sir." She then handed over BOTH passports.

Q3: "What does your husband do for work?"

A3: "He does financial sales in Denver, Colorado."

Q4: "How did you meet?"

A4: "We met on the internet on Asia Friend Finder in September of 2004."

Q5: "So you and your husband have lived together for a long time?"

A5: "Yes."

Q6: "May I see some pictures?"

A6: "Yes. Here you are sir." She then handed over a small stack of her favorite pictures she had pulled from the photo album while waiting in the interview hall.

His very next words, "Congratulations! You pass.

 

 

[CFL – K1 interview 9/2005] – In Chinese

Q1) Do you speak english as well as chinese?
A1) I can speak some english, I am learning. But I will understand you better if you speak in chinese. (This reply was first given in english than chinese).

Q2) Can I see your passport?
A2) Handing both passports through the window, she says in chinese, "Here is my passport and my fiancee's passport".
The VO stated that she did not need to see my passport and handed it back through the window.

Q3) How do the two of you communicate and talk?
A3) If the conservation is easy, I talk in english. If I have something complicated to say, I use the computer. (this reply was in chinese).

Q4) Has your fiancee been married before?
A4) Yes. He has two children. A boy named xxx who is 16; A girl named xxx who is 19.

Q5) What does your fiancee do for work?
A5) He is a computer programmer. (This reply was first in english and then in chinese).

Q6) When do you plan to get married?
A6) When we are in US, we will decide date. (This reply was in chinese).

She looked at my passport, which xxx was holding..and she asked
7. He has been to China 2 times? A. No, this is his 5th time.

 

[CFL – interview 3/2005]

All of our supporting documents were placed at the window where the VO could see them. He ask for 3 years tax forms (there were none) and SO referred him to our I-134 form. He then examined the I-134 form.

The VO asked for our "early" emails(about 800 total) and read the first one. He also ask for our photos which he quickly examined with no comments.
Some additional questions were;
- Are you a Communist? (NO!)
- What is his email address?
- What did he do before he retired?
- When did he last call you? (This morning at 6 AM.)
- What did he say to you? (He told me "Good luck".)
- Did you know he was married 3 times?(Yes, he was last divorced in 1973)
- How many times have you been married? ( 2 times )

 

[CFL – interview 3/2005]

wife said "good morning sir" // good morning he replied.

She then asked him (smiling) "may I put this down here ?" (pounds of evidence minus kitchen sink) Sure he replied may I have your passport.
"Here it is also a letter from my husband" she said handing him her passport, a notarized declaration letter from me detailing our relationship, and a proof list detailing all the evidence she had brought such as a notarized copy of my passport x amount of emails and instant messages, x amount of pics, phone records, ticket stubs and so on.
The VO studied the letter and proof list, and then her passport.

Q1: I see you were refused a US visa two months after your marriage he said.
A1: My wife did not reply and so he looked up from his desk and was surprised to see her smiling. "Yes I applied for a visitors visa to spend Christmas 2004 with my husband but I was told I must wait for my CR-1"

Q2:Thats OK said the VO when was your husband divorced?

A2: "He was separated in xxxxxx and divorced in yyyyyy" she replied.

Q3: Divorced in xxxxx? he asked.

A3: No separated in xxxxxx and divorced in yyyyy she replied.

Q4: What does he do?  // (wife) What?  // (VO in Mandarin) what is his work?

A4: "He works for--------"

Q5: What is his monthly salary?

A5: "I do not know what it is monthly, but his salary is xxxxxx a year"

Q6: may I see the copy of your husbands passport?

Q7: Sure here it is"  // She handed him the notarized copy of my passport and he studied the various visa entries and exits from China. He then studied his computer screen (I think he was looking at the numerous inquiries from my Senator and Congressmans office)

 

After about 3 minutes he smiled and said OK you have your visa.

 

[CFL – K1 interview 5/2006]

1. It seems you're here alone, where are your children?
They're not with me in China. He then cancelled the names of my children on the appointment letter and said "Ok, it means they will be interviewed in your country, we shall arrange for "follow to join''.
2. What do you do on China? I teach ......
3. For how long have you been in China? 3 years.
4. How did you meet your fiance? .....
5. How many times has he visited you in China?... 3 times
6. What does your fiance do for a living? He's a Registered Nurse
7. Where was your fiance before he relocated to another state?.....
8. Do you have any photos? Yes gave him an album. (I had 3 albums but the VO looked through one).
The VO commented on my resume and qualifications, I guess he was impressed. He also noted the fact that I worked as a Research Supervisor in an International Organization (not in China).    PASSED

 

[CFL – CR1 interview 11/2005] in Chinese

1. She asked how we meant and when.
2. Current employment verification paperwork.
3. What my job is.
4. How many times I had been to China and for how long each trip.
5. Wanted to see my itinerarys of my trips to China.

[CFL – Interview 5/2005]

1. VO- Do you speak English?
......Only a little.

......Bridge Worker.
4. VO-How will he able to support you?
......*Gave him the I-134 package. He spied the photos in the front of the document carrier.
5. VO-Can I see the photos?
......*Gave him 3 bound albums. Photos only of them together and family for his 3 trips to China.
6. VO-Which is his favorite?
......I like this on in BeiJing because it was my first airplane flight.
7. VO-No. I asked you which is HIS favorite!
......Oh! This one with our engagement rings together.
8. VO-Have you or your fiancée ever been married before?
......No.
9. VO-How many times has he been to China?
......4 times including now. *She showed him his passport but he only glanced at it.
10. VO-OK. You are approved. Take this (pinkish slip) to the ShaMian post office, pay your fee and pick up your Visa 2 days after payment. Have a nice trip.

 

 

[CFL – CR1 interview 11/2005] – In English

1. VO: Who has petitioned this visa for you?
    Me: My husband (his full name)
2. VO: How did you meet each other?
    Me: We met back in 1991 while I was attending university in the States.
3. VO: What does you husband do?
    Me: (I decided not to mention school first) He was a paralegal at (name of the law firm). He is in law school now.
4. VO: Which law school?
    Me: (name of the school)
5. VO: That's a good school. He must be very smart.
    Me: (Smiled) He works hard on it.
6. VO: Can you show me some photos?
    Me: Yes. (pull out album, thin and ugly, made of 7-year-old recycled card paper) But most photos have already been shipped to US, here are only a few left.
7. VO: (Flipping through the pages) When were these taken?
    Me: I marked the dates here (pointed at my handwritings). This one was taken (date)
8. VO: Where?
    Me: Washington state where we used to live.
9. VO: Is this your daughter?
    Me: (Proudly) Yes!

11. VO: …(I didn't pay attention to what he said, but noticed that he pressed the button to call the next person and pulled out the pinky-orange slip, and I know he said something about me being approved.)
